Philosophy Wire: The baboon. And the humans. [OR: Against work]

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2017-04-26]: A baboon who was employed as a signalman on the railroads – never made one mistake in his work. [1] We all admire the people who perform well at work. We all believe we are animals. And we are. If we believe it too much we are whatever we want to be. Because we are gods. And God can be a baboon if He wants to be one.

Philosophy Wire: Work makes you free. But from what? When will we eat?

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2014-12-12]: "Arbeit Macht Frei" (Work Makes You Free) Nazi signs are being stolen. [1] It is true that work makes you free. From being You. From being Human. From being Free. Start being lazy. And you will not have anything to eat. But your mind will be free again. To wander wherever it pleases. Perhaps to a restaurant? Fuck! And I believed it would be free!

Philosophy Wire: Frappe. The Ultimate priority!

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-11-23]: Dying after working for 3 days straight. [1] What are your priorities? Look at the sparrows. Chill. Drink a frappe. Don't do anything. And you will realize that then is when you have done the most...

Philosophy Wire: Live you stupid woman! Don't work!

03650_thumb[1]Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-04-23]: Chinese reporter leaving her marriage to go report (in her wedding dress!) for an earthquake that shook China. [source: web news] This is the story of humankind: Ignoring human relations and what is really important, to deal with bullshit...

Philosophy Wire: Unemployed or Prostitute? Decide!

minka-dumont-kelly-american-actress-supermodel-sexiest-womanPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-02-10]: A German job center has tried to line up a position for a young woman in a brothel. A German job center is calling it an "oversight," but the young woman in question isn't taking it lightly. A 19-year-old woman in the southern German city of Augsburg had been hunting for a job for months before the local, government-run job center contacted her about a potential position. "I was absolutely outraged," the newspaper quoted the woman as saying. "My mother immediately screamed when she saw the letter". [source: web news] This is actually not the first time something like that happens in Germany. Some years ago another young woman faced the threat of losing her unemployment benefits if she did not accept a job offer to work as a prostitute!!! (see here) Our civilization has progressed. And we have now learned that work is no shame. Or maybe some kinds of work are? How much do we really mean it when we refer to equality or when we defend the right of hookers to work? (prostitution is legal in Germany) How much hypocrites are we when we say that we would get any job if we were left unemployed? Perhaps the difference between “civilized” and “uncivilized” is that the latter cannot lie so good as we can…

Philosophy Wire: Money, AKB48, mountzes…

_65653833_65653832
_65652936_de26Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-02-01]: A Japanese pop star has shaved her head and offered a filmed apology after breaking her management firm's rules by spending a night with her boyfriend. A sobbing Minami Minegishi apologised to her fans and said she did not want to leave the band AKB48, in the video seen by millions on YouTube. The production company behind AKB48 said Minegishi, 20, had failed to abide by its cardinal rule - no dating. But fans have defended her, saying she is entitled to a normal life. [source: BBC News] The new era of Money Civilization is here! You are ours now! You must work for us and do what you are told for us to make money! There is no art! Just money! Forget the time when artists where the people who lived their life to the full! You are a money machine now! You can have no life of your own! You are ours now!

Philosophy Wire: 24h strike - The culmination of the “well-fed” hypocrisy

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-11-05]: Many times we hear about 24-hour (or 48-hour)  strikes that working people do in retaliation for harsh measures taken from their governments or as a reaction for some “bad” changes in their work environment. But what is a 24h strike after all? For the employer, it is the BEST way to show he is free-minded. He just lets his employees not work for one day and after that they are all back and running as usual! For the employees it is a good chance to sit at home and get some rest. Essence = ZERO. In the old days, when people had REAL problems with their work they went on strike for months, actually RISKING their jobs and even their physical health (or even their lives)… Now we are all about pretending… And the only ones who actually go on strike are the "well-fed" who can afford to so. Too bad… Too sad…

Philosophy Wire: Amour and Haneke, or Europe vs. Greece 0-1

amour-haneke-cannes-2012Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-10-02]: The new spectacular film by Haneke (Amour) reminds us of what we already knew but have forgotten: that society in Greece is light years BEHIND societies in western Europe! And that is a GOOD thing! When our parents are dying, we do not need weeks just to see them because we “were busy”…

PS. And for those Europeans who read this, YES, we ARE busy working the longest hours in the whole European Union. Search your statistics…

Philosophy Wire: Human sacrifices - Then, now (?)

9584D182E6B504C1BE0677ACC64D95E2Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-05-04]: Researchers discovered traces of blood, hair and muscles on ancient rock blades, used by pre-Aztec civilizations in human sacrifices [source: web news]. We are socked by such sacrifices today. We are too much addicted to killing people’s souls slowly every day, that such direct actions seem truly appalling…

Philosophy Wire: Apple, Middle Ages and the dehumanization of technology

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-05-01]: Non Government Organizations analyzed the conditions under which the workers at Chinese factories producing Apple popular products (like iPhone and iPad) are working. Their conclusions are that people there work under extremely harsh conditions - "they are treated more like machines than like humans" [for details see web news]. The era of technology is exactly that: the era of technology and not the era of humans. The latter do not exist anywhere... But al least we have iPhones... The problem of technology is not if it works. The very problem is that it DOES work...

Philosophy Wire: Siesta championship held in Spain

Philosophy Wire: 2010-10-17 A siesta championship contest is held in Spain. People have forgotten how to do things they once naturally did. Is 24/7 productivity "natural" for people? Is making money and not sleeping "natural" for people? But I have a family to feed! someone might say... But when you ask him where his family is, he cannot answer - he has many months to see them "due to work" and has forgotten their names...
