Philosophy Wire: A cataclysmic past. A cosmos in turmoil…

Recent research shows that our planet may have been pummeled with asteroids long before some scientists had previously thought. [1] Velikovsky tried to explain why the past of the cosmos was violent. But no one heard. Because everyone believes in order. Now we know. We know that cataclysmic events too place in the past. But we still don't believe in chaos. For we believe that since we have understood these events they are not so chaotic after all. You see, we still love order, patterns and explanations. We love understanding. Thus, we will never understand that the cosmos is incomprehensible. We hate ignorance. Thus, we will never know that there is nothing to know. Chaos out of order. Order out of chaos. Only because neither is there. In a world in turmoil, we choose to open our eyes. Only because we are afraid to keep them closed…

Philosophy Wire: Chaos AND Order…

During the formation of a black hole a bright burst of very energetic light in the form of gamma-rays is produced, these events are called gamma-ray bursts. Researchers have built the POLAR instrument to analyze gamma-ray bursts. The first results of POLAR reveal that the high energy photons coming from gamma-ray bursts are neither completely chaotic, nor completely organized, but a mixture of the two. [1] 

We like to discuss in terms of exclusiveness. 
We can have order. 
We can see chaos. 
But never both at the same time. 

But the cosmos is not black and white. 
The cosmos is not just chaos. 
Neither only order. 
Look for the answers not in music, nor in the noise of the sea… 

But in the silence in between…

Philosophy Wire: Anisotropy, symmetry, chaos...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-12-26]: A new study detected an anisotropy in cosmic rays. They seem to be coming from one specific part of the sky.  [1] We humans love symmetry. We love isotropy. We love order. However the world is anisotropic. The world is not symmetric. The world is chaotic.  I do not know how and why, but something deep inside me tells me that these exact characteristics are the ones which make the cosmos symmetric, isotropic and in order... Chaos creates order. Order creates chaos. Existence cries out: Look you human! See me change but remain the same! Look at the beauty in my assymetries! Look at the order of my anisotropies! Admire me!

Order out of Chaos (?) - Τάξη από το Χάος (;)

Ancient Greek philosophers wandered how could Order (cosmos) be born out of Chaos?
But is our cosmos something which is in order?
And if order can come out of chaos, could it be that chaos is not so... chaotic?

Οι αρχαίοι Έλληνες φιλόσοφοι αναρωτιόντουσαν πως η Τάξη (ο κόσμος) γεννήθηκε από το Χάος;
Είναι όμως ο κόσμος μας σε τάξη;
Και αν μπορεί από το Χάος να προέλθει τάξη, μήπως το χάος δεν είναι τόσο... χαοτικό;
