Philosophy Wire: The power of Humor & Jokes. (+ idiots shielding)

080506_0050Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-02-18]: The most serious things can be said in the form of a joke. Jokes are thought-liberating. They allow you to use forms that you couldn’t if you were to stay “serious”. And free forms is the basis for creative thinking. As Ludwig Wittgenstein said, “A serious and good philosophical work could be written consisting entirely of jokes”. Seriousness is the only refuge of the shallow (Oscar Wilde)...
But the greatest advantage of jokes is that they offer the best cover against fools. The idiot who will hear someone say something wise in the form of a joke, will just laugh because without thinking any further. He cannot understand the truth. He cannot see how a joke can be serious. And only those who seek seriousness with their heart can understand jokes…
Knowledge is something too important to be disseminated in simple ways…

Exceptionally clean jokes about Muhammad and Islam

Due to recent unrest about offensive movies regarding Muhammad, I thought I gather some good clean jokes so that we can all have a good time and relax. You know, every person has a sense of humor, even if that sense is too well hidden in some of them. Sharing good jokes is a way of coming closer together as human beings. Laughing is what unites us with the unseen and everlasting One...

Here are some good jokes regarding Islam. One can find jokes regarding all other faiths in the good old Jokes about Religion and Atheism page.

Philosophy Wire: Twitter, religion, blasphemy (?), jokes…

user210615_pic58948_1279881791_thumb[2]Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-03-28]: A man in Kuwait was arrested for posting blasphemous tweets online [source: Reuters]. Can you say anything about the beliefs of others? What is the limit beyond which you offend someone? Do all those who are NOT members of Twitter offend atheists for tweeting… nothing? Hehehe….

Philosophy Wire: Dawkins, slaps, jokes…

3fce744dffa86bb65169cc3efeede384_10Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-02-15]: Dawkins, the high priest of atheism today, mocks Christians who do not know by heart all the holy Christian books. But in a radio debate with a priest, he falls into his own trap: the priest asks him for the full title of Darwin’s book on the Theory of Evolution and Dawkins remains… stunned because HE CANNOT REMEMBER it [source: web news] !!! Talking too much always end up bad… Hahahaha!!!

Here is the full transcript of the dialogue:

Dawkins said an "astonishing number couldn't identify the first book in the New Testament." But his claim that this indicated self-identified Christians were "not really Christian at all" was challenged by Fraser, who said the poll asked "silly little questions" to "trip" people up. (this is a discussion of Dawkins with Giles Fraser, Former Canon Chancellor of St Paul's Cathedral, over a poll conducted for the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science (UK) which found that self-identified Christians didn't go to Church, or read the bible)

Giles Fraser: Richard, if I said to you what is the full title of 'The Origin Of Species', I'm sure you could tell me that.

Richard Dawkins: Yes I could

Giles Fraser: Go on then.

Richard Dawkins: On The Origin Of Species.. Uh. With, Oh God. On The Origin Of Species. There is a sub title with respect to the preservation of favoured races in the struggle for life.

Giles Fraser: You're the high pope of Darwinism… If you asked people who believed in evolution that question and you came back and said 2% got it right, it would be terribly easy for me to go 'they don't believe it after all.' It's just not fair to ask people these questions. They self-identify as Christians and I think you should respect that.

PS. The fact that Dawkins uses the phrase “Oh God” when he has problems, has great importance and symbolism on its own…
