Philosophy Wire: A Life worth living…

A doctor and medical ethicist argues life after 75 is not worth living. [1] Modern civilization praises young men. Modern society disrespects the elder ones. But it isn’t the young ones who built civilization as we know it. It was those elders who built this cosmos on their wisdom. Elders who saw beauty where young ones saw nothing. Elders who were able to sing even in the midst of their greatest sorrows. Elders who managed to believe even when all the things were against that belief. Modern society praises logic. But this logic is shallow and sterile, unable to bear any children. There are no dreams in the mind of those who see the cosmos through the lens of life. Watch closely. Everything you see moving is standing still. Whatever you see breathing is dead. Puppets of insignificance, standing motionless. Shouting frantically in the midst of nothingness. Look at your elder people. Let them set the example. Watch them die. Do you see them smile? Do you see them dance?!

Philosophy Wire: Love, elderly people, doorknobs...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-12-20]: In Vancouver, the humble doorknob is being phased out so as to improve the lifes of the elder, being replaced by handles. [1] Is it really the doorknob the greatest problem of elderly today? Or could it be that people tend to forget them and throw them away? Lack of love cannot be replaced with a good fully functional door handle. No matter how polished... He who deals with the details has either solved all the major issues, or he has solved none of them...
