Philosophy Wire: Trees changing. Humans dying.

The annals of human history have been recorded through text, art, and oral tradition. However, for hundreds of years tropical forests have also kept detailed records of the human activities that unfolded around them. Researchers now describe how the rings, physical chemistry, and DNA of living tropical trees reveal the impacts of native culture as well as the scars of colonial occupation. [1] Changing the trees. At the end, we will even kill the forest. And we will laugh. And we will celebrate.

And then, for no apparent reason, we will cry…

And realize that the forest had changed us as well…

We want to plant seeds now.

But where to do that?

There are trees everywhere…

Philosophy Wire: Wise lilies…

Botanists have discovered the oldest, completely preserved lily in a research collection: Cratolirion bognerianum was found in calcareous sediments of a former freshwater lake in Crato in northeastern Brazil. With an age of about 115 million years, Cratolirion is one of the oldest known monocotyledonous plants. These include orchids, sweet grasses, lilies and lilies of the valley. [1] Ephemeral lilies. Eternal men. Always seeking death. Always lusting for life. Preserved into everything. Giving birth to nothing but death. Proud lilies. You tried to warn me. Not when you were blossoming in perfection. But when you died in the dirt. For only in the shiny agony of death can life be known. Ephemeral men. Proud eternal lilies. Sorry for not listening to you…

Philosophy Wire: Plants. Consciousness. Death.

If a tree falls, and no one's there to hear it, does it feel pain and loneliness? No, experts argue in an opinion article publishing in the journal Trends in Plant Science. They draw this conclusion from recent research which explores the evolution of consciousness through comparative studies of simple and complex animal brains. [1] Consciousness. So proud we are off having it. And yet, the greatest wisdom stems from the ability of man to let go and think unconsciously. Inside a forest. Along beautiful plants. Acknowledging that it doesn't matter. And with humbleness in front of the unconscious plants. Die smiling… See. You are still alive! Can you smell the Jasmine?

Philosophy Wire: Be cool…

Plants engineered to always be on alert don’t grow well. [1] Be cool. At the end, you will die. But only because you lived before. Be cool. At the end you will cry. But only because at some point you laughed. And that laughter echoes through eternity ever since… No, you did not cut that tree of Life down… You planted its seed deep in the Earth…

Philosophy Wire: Plants. Sun. Darkness.

Plants need sunlight or other light sources to power the chemical reactions of photosynthesis and make food for themselves. But some plants rely on others to make food for them and can survive without sunlight. Parasitic plants take nutrients directly from other plants. For example, the many species of the genus Cuscuta, commonly called dodder or witch’s hair, use structures called haustoria to pierce the stems of other plants. Once contact has been made, the dodder's own roots disappear, and its thin vines, with only vestigial leaves, grow using the host plant's resources. [1] Once upon a time we were trees. Then we decided to eat that apple (Tree of Knowledge). And we became dependent of another tree (Tree of Life). Deciding to cut off our own roots to reality and rely on our senses and logic to see through the veil of existence. Once upon a time we needed light to grow. Now we can survive in the darkness. Once upon a time we were hungry. Now we are just eating apples. Once upon a time we were gods. Now we are just humans…

Philosophy Wire: Quantum coherence, photosynthesis, One...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-08-05]: Photosynthesis seems to be taking advantage of the quantum phenomenon of superposition, which we thought can only be maninted for a long time in the controlled conditions of a lab. [1, 2, 3, 4] Quantum coherence seems to be able to survive out in the... wild! Everything is possible... Nothing changes... The whole world is One...

Philosophy Wire: Plants, starch, mathematics...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-08-03]: It looks as if plants are able to perform divisions, so that they do not run out of starch during the night. [1] Mathematics seem not only to be inherent for humans, but for the whole cosmos as well...

Philosophy Wire: Frozen plants, life, death.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-06-02]: Plants frozen for 400 hundred years have come back to life. [source: web news] Life is here to prevail. Or maybe it is death that was never born?

Philosophy Wire: Basil & Pepper

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-05-09]: The basic could actually be talking to the pepper via sounds. [source: web news] Each new impressive finding adds a new piece to the puzzle called “Everything-is-One-and-we-are-similar-to-everything-in-ways-we-cannot-imagine”. If plants can talk together with sounds, then the only thing that remains to be found is rocks speaking to each other….
