Philosophy Wire: Glogablization. What is important. Good people. [against media]

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2015-10-29]: With globalization we learned how to be immigrants. How to flee to other countries. Speak other languages. To communicate and collaborate with many different people. To learn and discuss their news. But what was always most important was to be engaged with your own country. To stay in your country. To speak your language. To communicate and collaborate with your own people. To learn the news that really matter to you. Close your eyes. Stop reading papers for a moment. What matters to you, you already know. Artificial communication is not communication at all. Let love flow from and to you. Without artificial barriers. One by one, the world will become a better place instantly.

Philosophy Wire: Prove you are not a racist!

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-10-04]: The new Miss USA. She is Indian. [1] Media rule the world today. All try to prove they are not racists...

Philosophy Wire: Fukushima, radioactive water, asking for the obvious…

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-09-07]: Hmmm... Let us all think. What should we do with the thousands of tons of radioactive water from Fukushima? [1] Let's think... Because showing to people that we think, will make is all much better when we tell them the obvious...

Philosophy Wire: Misinformation, ERT, stupidity.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-06-17]:

The Greek PM closed the national TV broadcaster.

Media in Greece talk about "thousands" who protest against this "fascist" decision.
Media abroad reproduce what media in Greece say. [1]

Stupidity and misinformation propagates. Aggressively.

A channel with 4% ratings and with almost zero productions of any logical quality (with one "Third" exception which just verifies the rule - making everyone "suddently" love classical music), a channel where all the political parties used to appoint voters, a channel where people get paid €150,000 just for doing nothing, a channel which said NOTHING about the 2,000,000 people who lost their jobs from the private sector all these years, a channel which is paid by the Greek citizens via a do-what-I-tell-you-or-else-I-will-cut-your-power tax is suddently the culmination of "objectivity", "freedom" and "democracy".

Stupidity and misinformation propagates. Aggressively.
Masses are mindless. And need to be manipulated. They deserve it.

Philosophy Wire: London, Beijing, Athens and the media propaganda.

reporterPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-07-28]: The London Olympic Games opening ceremony just sucked! Totally. At every level! No harmony. No show. Just a bunch of people wandering around. People in the Internet shout it. But the “official” media have a different opinion: for them, the opening ceremony was great! Once again, media show us that they have NOTHING to do with reality!!!!! Nothing at al!!!

PS. Maybe the rule “see what the media say that happened, and deduce the conclusion that the OPPOSITE did actually happen” is valid?

Philosophy Wire: Journalism, Bild, Zeitung, prejudice, Parmenides…

42505Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-05-13]: Journalists from Sueddeutsche Zeitung refused to receive the Henri Nannen Journalism Award due to the fact that newspaper Bild was also awarded [source: 1, 2]. Prejudice is difficult to fight. When you “know” that something is not of a high quality, how can you accept it as something else if it changes? Wasn’t Parmenides who said that the notion of Change is an illusion after all (see Harmonia Philosophica) ? How can something change, but still remain the “same” so that we are able to refer to it by the same name?

Philosophy Wire: Violent episodes, TV, V

forestPhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-03-18]: Violent episodes erupt in a football game (PAO-OSFP today) but the TV decides not to broadcast any image containing those episodes [source: ]. As in the movie V for Vendetta, the TV will decide to present beautiful images while streets are in fire. Everything is well then. Continue your sleep…

Hitler - Person of the Year (or Do you trust media?)

Hitler was declared "Person of the Year" from the "prestigious" international TIME magazine in 1938 (see figure above). And guess what happened in 1939: The new "Person of the Year" was... Joseph Stalin! Of course there is no need to tell you that the pictures of these front covers cannot be easily found today... Mass media always promote specific interests and unfortunately independent journalists can be counted with the fingers of one hand (well, after you cut off the fingers). How much do you trust media today?

Philosophy Wire: NYT–Should journalists be “truth” vigilantes? Yes! (or No!?) ~

watergatePhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-01-13]: New York Times wander if a journalists should be a truth vigilante and search actively for proving (or refuting) the new he presents [source: web news]. The vast majority of readers cried out loudly: YES! Majorities cannot judge on their own… They want guidance. They want someone else to tell them which is right and which is wrong They want to trust someone stranger with their life, if he is writing in CNN, NYT or the BBC… This is the sad truth of today: people have lost faith in their own ability to judge what they hear…

Philosophy Wire: Steven Hawking. Overrated!

D0EFF7BE66E20AB3B51D132FC7D96E0APhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-01-10]: Worldwide media are mentioning Stephen William Hawking and some statements he made due to his 70th birthday. How many do really know an important discovery of Hawking and how many have overrated him just due to his disease?

Philosophy Wire: A man dies. So what? I did not hear about it…

DE52F7C7F5A3146D11A7B2710D7EED95Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-11-17]: A Chinese citizen set himself on fire in the Tiananmen Square [source: web news]. This happened a month ago however we lean it today because today the Chinese authorities decided to reveal the incident. The information we have on events which happen in the world are very much controlled – not only in China but also in every other country (and I might say that in US the phenomenon is more dangerous, since there the citizens "are fooled” that they are informed while they are terribly misinformed). A man dies. We learn nothing. Life goes on.

Philosophy Wire: Rupert Murdoch, Police and the Real problem…

_54092708_jex_1109104_de27-1Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-07-15]: Everyone is talking about what Rupert Murdoch’s paper was doing. But noone is interested in what Police Officers were doing… If a journalist can bribe a police officer, then it is the latter we should be worried about. Plato asked who will protect us from the guards. And THIS is the problem we should be worried about…
