Philosophy Wire: Symmetry?

According to Einstein the speed of light is always the same. But according to theoretical models of quantum gravitation, this uniformity of space-time does not apply to particles. Physicists have tried to detect a change in the uniformity of space-time using two optical Ytterbium clocks. [1] Is the world symmetric? Does it matter if it is? Every question we make, contains the answers we seek. In a world of chaos, only humans could care about symmetry. While God is engulfed with the awe of the deep dark ocean, we are still measuring the small gentle waves on shore. There is no symmetry in the abyss. But everything is symmetrical. Chaos breeds order. Within the movements of the rough waves, one can see that there are no waves at all. Only one sea. Rough and peaceful. Deep and cold. One sea. Governing everything. You need to fly high enough to see that this chaotic system is symmetrical to itself. Or dive very deep…

Philosophy Wire: Symmetries. Conservation laws. A moon in the mirror…

Noether's (first) theorem states that every differentiable symmetry of the action of a physical system has a corresponding conservation law. [1] Look at the Sun. Look at the Moon. In a symmetric cosmos everything is conserved. How can anything not exist anyway? Everything is One. One is Everything. Look at your mirror. Clap your hands. You know it to be true…

Philosophy Wire: Anisotropy, symmetry, chaos...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-12-26]: A new study detected an anisotropy in cosmic rays. They seem to be coming from one specific part of the sky.  [1] We humans love symmetry. We love isotropy. We love order. However the world is anisotropic. The world is not symmetric. The world is chaotic.  I do not know how and why, but something deep inside me tells me that these exact characteristics are the ones which make the cosmos symmetric, isotropic and in order... Chaos creates order. Order creates chaos. Existence cries out: Look you human! See me change but remain the same! Look at the beauty in my assymetries! Look at the order of my anisotropies! Admire me!
