Drugs to release the mind ?!

A researcher. A thinker. And yet, a drug user...

Every place will hold its secrets from you. You can never see the Amazon jungle, if you keep intact the bubble of linguistic assumptions of the place you started out from. (Terence McKenna discusses if reality is real)

Culture and ideology are not your friends. This is a hard thing to come to terms with because some kind of alienation lies at the end of this thought process. Culture is not you. Culture is for the convenience of culture. How many times have your sexual desires, career aspirations, financial dealings, aesthetic inclinations been squashed, twisted, rejected and minimized by cultural values? (Terence McKenna, The Universe inside)

Mystery didn't die with the fall of Atlantis. It still exists in every moment. It just lies behind the barrier of courage. (Terence McKenna, The Universe inside)

Wherever and whenever the ego function began to form, it was akin to a cancerous tumor or a blockage in the energy of the psyche. The use of psychedelic plants in a context of shamanic initiation dissolved - as it dissolves today - the knotted structure of the ego into undifferentiated feeling, what Eastern philosophy calls the Tao. (Terence McKenna, Food of the Gods)

Try to free your mind.
Try to let go of your brain...
It is just a distraction.
Focus on what you don't see...
Hear what you don't hear...

As Green Day said it so eloquently... "As soon as you're born they make you feel small"... Try to grow beyond what you have learnt as "correct"!

Most of the times something evil lurks behind totalitarian bans like the "all drugs are evil" motto... In the old days the most wise men took (natural) "drugs". Now drug addicts are just "ill". Think about it: when was the last time Society or the State cared SO MUCH about your health? ...

Philosophy Wire: Self healing cement, cracks, bacteria, humans…

forest-treePhilosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2012-10-30]: Scientists discovered the self-healing cement: small bacteria residing in hypnosis inside the material, are activated with water (pouring through micro cracks in the cement body) and generate limestone [source: BBC News]. Nature has many mechanisms to self-heal and it is good that humans have started learning they exist. We just now have to make sure we are the cement and not the cracks… Bacteria in their humility have many ways to help maintain harmony in the cosmos. What can we do to achieve the same?

Harmonia Philosophica philosophy portal aims at showing that silence is better than talking, irrational better than logic, intuition better than cold calculations. Thinking freely is more difficult than one can imagine; dogmatism is hidden even in the most "valid" scientific views. There is no "ultimate" truth and no "objective" reality. We are all humans creating our own cosmos as we think. A reconciliation of all different views is required if we are to see our self as it is - a luminous being which is an integral part of the One that Parmenides once visualized...

Harmonia Philosophica has for a long time been in the edge of modern philosophy. It has dealt with numerous problems and suggested innovative answers. With a full range of philosophy articles, including but not limited to...

...in depth articles like "Religion and Science Unification - The path towards Religional Science" or "The Limits of Science",

...innovative notions like the 'Harmonia Philosophica' main thesis,

...provocative ideas like "Why Medicine is Not a pro-Science argument" or "Happy new year, with disease and misery!",

...controversial conclusions like "Why we need more bullfights!",

...weird thoughts like "The need for non-Thinking",

...mind-bending topics like "DIVISION BY ZERO (1/0 = One)" or "What IS a particle? A surprisingly difficult question…",

...poetic posts like "The value of Silence", "Heidegger, σκόλοπες and the road to accepting non-thinking...",

...science philosophy topics like "Science the New Religion: The NSF example",

...hallucination-destructive reminders like "Are we free to choose haircut?",

...at-the-edge analyses like "Mind, Morphogenetic fields, Quantum physics..." or

...life changing essays like "Why good people suffer",

the Harmonia Philosophica philosophy program has delivered in its short life more than anyone would expect. A list of some of the best Harmonia Philosophica articles can be found here and here.

If you ever thought that Religion is equal or even more important than Science...
If you ever thought that Science is an excellent tool but a tool which cannot answer everything...
If you did not know that the most important logicians of all time where theists...
If you did not know that it has been proved that logic cannot prove everything...
If you ever thought that your intuition is right even though your "logic" says otherwise...

then Harmonia Philosophica is for you!

Harmonia & Antithesis - The path to One

Αρμονία (En. harmonia) is what wise men seek. But why do we seek it? Why do people want harmony in their lives, why do they want harmony in their thinking?

Harmony is a weird thing.
You cannot have it unless you have met excess.

We seek harmony because we think we see it is the world.
But the world is most of the times an ugly place full of antinomies and misery.

We like harmony because we feel good when we have it.
So is harmony product of our selfishness?

Harmony is the way to unite opposites into One.
But if opposites are part of this world, could they also be part of Harmony in the cosmos?

If we think antithesis is an illusion,
why don't think the other way around - could Harmony be an illusion too?

Intuition tells us that the world is not as complicated or full of antinomies as mathematics think.
If something and its opposite are true, then maybe there is no antinomie at all.

"True" and "False" are human inventions.
I wouldn't trust them much...

Thank you Google Knol! (or The value of User-review)

Every man has his own story. A story he thinks is worth telling, but which may interest noone at all. This is such a story.

I used to have many ideas and I used to write many essays on philosophical subjects on my own. However I never did publish my work or let anyone else (besides my inner circle) see it. I was happy about that and did not really think that I could ever get the chance to publish my work. My initial publish efforts was a site in Yahoo! Geocities (now closed) and I must say that the idea of being well known in the Internet had never crossed my mind nor did I pursue it actively.

And then came Google Knol. It promised to offer a brand new way of publising your ideas to the wider audience of the Internet. It promised a brand new way of user-review of articles posted and an innovative way of article rating. That was all I needed! I immediately started publishing work I had already written and the sky was the limit. I was in a frenzy and wrote new articles as soon as my fingers were rested from restless typing on the computer.

The Knol system worked well in the beginning. However a series of problems came into existence (not the place here to analyze them) and after some time, Knol finally met its innevitable fate. I am not sad that it closed, since everyone carries within himself the things that define him - no matter if they still "are" or not. I am just thrilled that I participated in the journey!

Now that Wikipedia faces problems with a PR company manipulating its content to favor its customers (!!!) [see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16084861], it is not a bad time to think again the things Knol taught us. The Wikipedia-type "blind" and "faceless" type of "encyclopedia authority" is always dangerous... Users have power. And if you give them the right to exercise it, you can build a powerful peer-reviewed system of articles online.

So Thank you Knol!
You made me into who I am!
And I will always think I write "Knols" whenever a new quality article comes out of my hands...

Nietzsche, an irrational believer!

If you are one of those who like to refer to Nietzsche without having ever read him, you can stop reading that article now. People who refer to Nietzsche with the confidence of the ignorant and who repeat the “God is dead” phrase again and again just show what they want to hide: that they HAVE NOT read more than ten lines of text written by Nietzsche (books for Nietzsche written by others do not count – see below why). This is what the dogmatic ignorant usually does: he reads something that someone else has written for a philosopher (never the philosopher himself, since that would be “difficult”), isolates a phrase that matches his beliefs and then he repeats that phrase until they die (both he and the phrase).

If you read the Notebooks of Nietzsche or the (very important) “The birth of Tragedy” (Gr. Η Γέννηση της Τραγωδίας), you will see how the opinion you have formulated by listening to what others are saying about a philosopher greatly differs from the opinion you formulate when reading the philosopher HIMSELF! In “The birth of Tragedy” Nietzsche speaks of the Dionysian man and how he, during his ecstasy, encounters the mysterious One which transcends the world. He refers to gods and the need for the existence of myths and… miracles! He talks about the songs that the drunken Dionysian man sings under the mid-noon Sun and how he is filled with joy when his existence is united with the primal One. He talks about how music reveals that One (Gr. Εν) which hovers over every phenomenality. He speaks against Science and Logic, who both think they can explain the world by just sticking to its phenomenal surface. At some point he also shortly explains his antithesis with religion today (i.e. the religion of his time): it is because it has become a religion of scholars – while Reason cannot explain the mystery of “existing” !!! At another point he reaches to the point to refer to the supernatural comfort we feel when we are united again with that “primordial Being”. He even refers to eternal living beyond every phenomenon and against any nullification!

Let us consider things now. How much is the above wealth of thoughts away from the simplistic “Nietzsche is an atheist. He said that God is dead!” opinion? I am not saying that I have the key for the interpretation of all of the above. But anyone who insists on simply putting a doctrinal “atheist” tag on this high-quality stream of thoughts can be anything BUT correct. When many of the above could be part of a... theological text, we are not entitled to isolate a sentence and draw any conclusions from it.

In "Thus Spake Zarathustra" Nietzsche calls us to become children, as Christ did a long time ago.

The great philosopher was not against God in general (see Nietzsche - Writings from the Late Notebooks, Rudiger Bittner), but against the representatives of Christianism who failed to solve the problems of the world. Nietzsche was against any kind of "foundations". If God existed, then foundations must also exist. (see here) When talking about "god" the philosopher does not even talk about God! The god which he declares "dead" is not God, but the ethical imperatives of Christianism in his era. [Thus Spake Zarathustra, page 29 in Part 1 Chapter 1: "What is the great dragon which the spirit is no longer inclined to call Lord and God? "Thou-shalt," is the great dragon called"] The Superhuman is a new human who is not genetically superior but ethically superior, who is driven by the will for power and who does not care for the "other world" but only lives for the world "down here", on Earth. The man of a new metaphysics, the Eternal Return. The ass is the animal of that supreme human, like Jesus sat on such an animal when he entered Jerusalem. Nietzsche calls us to find god inside our selves (source).

Try to see past the outer phenomenal differences...

Papanoutsos (Gr. Παπανούτσος) actually reads the “God is dead” phrase not as a triumphal phrase of victory, but rather as an ascertainment that Nietzsche made with sadness: man with his science (against which Nietzsche attacks furiously again and again) thinks he can understand everything. But he cannot. Only the superhuman can help us now that "god is dead" and make us see the god inside us. [Papanoutsos: Παπανούτσος, "Φιλοσοφικά Προβλήματα", Φιλοσοφική άποψη της ιστορίας της φιλοσοφίας, σ. 215] (didn't Christ taught the same?) Zarathustra expresses an anxiety in an era when every educated man should be happy with the progress of science...

But not many pay attention to that exception to the generally optimistic climate.

How much different is the "other world" for which Jesus talked from Nietzsche's (equally mystical, weird and paradoxical) world of the "eternal return"? Nietzsche was poetic and irrational - as much as it is required to be a Believer. Nietzsche did not have the love he wanted in life. And he seeks it with hatred. With passion that only he who seeks God in its ultimate form can have. Only the Dionysian man in his ecstasy can be aware of the “primordial Being”. And don’t let anyone tell you what this Being (the One) is like!

Read Nietzsche for yourself in order to learn what he says! Rational interpretations which put his thoughts in “category checkboxes” are certainly not appropriate for the man who founded the… irrationalism!
