Philosophy Wire: A magnetic universe. Agamemnon’s goal…

Galaxy 5 billion light-years away shows we live in a magnetic universe. The results of the study support the idea that galaxy magnetic fields are generated by a rotating dynamo effect, similar to the process that produces the Sun's magnetic field. [1] Velikovsky talked about magnetism. People laughed at him. But at the end it doesn’t matter. Their laughter will be lost in the oblivion of existence. The galaxy is no galaxy. The magnetic field is not a magnetic field. Zeus is real. Pure will penetrates the universe. Look beyond the sun and the stars. And you will see a face staring back at you… Agamemnon’s face… Troy has fallen.

Philosophy Wire: Will. Worms. Crocodiles.

Despite their very different ancestors, dolphins and crocodiles evolved similarly shaped skulls to feed on similar prey, new research indicates. Having a long, thin snout has great advantages when trying to catch small fish. [1] Our goals drive everything. Our will determines the cosmos. The worm wants to be a worm. Or else it would be a whale. Really. Go ask it.

Philosophy Wire: Consciousness. Instincts. Nietzsche. I. One.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2017-09-25]:

Consciousness.

Intrinsic property of humans or the... result of the repression of our instincts and the development of logic? (see Nietzsche) Is consciousness a side effect of the continuous opposition of morality to our primordial instincts? Could we simply listen to ourselves struggling and confuse it with listening to something of "higher" order when in fact it is just our oppressed instincts that rebel?

Instincts.

What kind of man allows himself to be drifted by them? How 'superior' is someone who makes no effort to change and become a better person? If this is "superior", then I want to be "inferior". And why not considered this an instinct?

Will.

Whatever the "truth", the bottom line is that our existence is connected with it. And only a truly free being has will of its own. Only a being with will has consciousness to guide it. Only a being with a conscience has instincts to act as markers on the road to virtue.

Complete beings we are.
In a complete world.
Full of light.

Philosophy Wire: Stress. Doing nothing. Life via death…

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2015-10-01]: Stress can affect our decisions and make us more prone to succumb to the temptation of an unhealthy food – a chocolate for example. [1] Forget that you can also affect things. Accept that you are only affected by things. Die. Let go. And in the whirlpool of death, you will meet life. Where everything is under control. With your affected-by-everything mind and brain. Without your mind and brain that influences everything in return. Write random things. Everything is irrational. Don’t think too much. Or try to control stress. You will do it. Only to be affected by something else (your stubbornness to not be stressed?). Be calm. With no will. You need a powerful will to achieve that…

Philosophy Wire: A black and blue dress. A white and gold dress. A world made up of consciousness. Will. The fear of responsibility.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2015-04-06]: A debate about the true color of a dress has sparked all over the Internet about a month ago. [1] We need reality to exist. We are afraid to admit that we are the ones who create it. Perception is subjective. So why not reality as well? What we like not is the responsibility. Let Photoshop tell us what colour this is. Why should we decide? But this is what makes us humans! This is what consciousness is! This is what Being is all about! Will. Otherwise we are naked… From the cold forests of the North to the deserts of Africa, our WILL is what makes the world be. The dress is green. I just decided that. I am God.

Philosophy Wire: Will. Living.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2015-01-08]: For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last 3 to 12 weeks of their lives.

People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learnt never to underestimate someone's capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them.

When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five:

1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

This was the most common regret of all. When people realise that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfilled. Most people had not honored even a half of their dreams and had to die knowing that it was due to choices they had made, or not made.

It is very important to try and honour at least some of your dreams along the way. From the moment that you lose your health, it is too late. Health brings a freedom very few realise, until they no longer have it.

2. I wish I didn't work so hard.

This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children's youth and their partner's companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence.

By simplifying your lifestyle and making conscious choices along the way, it is possible to not need the income that you think you do. And by creating more space in your life, you become happier and more open to new opportunities, ones more suited to your new lifestyle.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

Many people suppressed their feelings in order to keep peace with others. As a result, they settled for a mediocre existence and never became who they were truly capable of becoming. Many developed illnesses relating to the bitterness and resentment they carried as a result.

We cannot control the reactions of others. However, although people may initially react when you change the way you are by speaking honestly, in the end it raises the relationship to a whole new and healthier level. Either that or it releases the unhealthy relationship from your life. Either way, you win.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

Often they would not truly realise the full benefits of old friends until their dying weeks and it was not always possible to track them down. Many had become so caught up in their own lives that they had let golden friendships slip by over the years. There were many deep regrets about not giving friendships the time and effort that they deserved. Everyone misses their friends when they are dying.

It is common for anyone in a busy lifestyle to let friendships slip. But when you are faced with your approaching death, the physical details of life fall away. People do want to get their financial affairs in order if possible. But it is not money or status that holds the true importance for them. They want to get things in order more for the benefit of those they love. Usually though, they are too ill and weary to ever manage this task. It is all comes down to love and relationships in the end. That is all that remains in the final weeks, love and relationships.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

This is a surprisingly common one. Many did not realise until the end that happiness is a choice. They had stayed stuck in old patterns and habits. The so-called 'comfort' of familiarity overflowed into their emotions, as well as their physical lives. Fear of change had them pretending to others, and to their selves, that they were content. When deep within, they longed to laugh properly and have silliness in their life again. [1]

Pure will we are.
Do what you want.
Just do it.
As long as you do not, you are not yourself.
Every day you die.
As long as you do not decide to live.
Schopenhauer was right!
Press that rock.
Decide to exist.
As she does!
Break the rock!
Be!

Walk with me. I want to.

Philosophy Wire: Homosexuality against evolution. Stupidity as an evolutionary product. Will.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2015-01-03]: Homosexuality May Have Evolved In Humans Because It Helps Us Bond, Scientists Say. [1] Sure. To bond and then not have children. Brilliant. I wonder why and how stupidity evolved... Nature has its ways of committing suicide. Consciousness cannot even do that. Do unconscious conscious choices. Accept who you are but exert your will to be who you want to be. Will we are. Pure will. All bound together.

Philosophy Wire: Curiosity. Memory. Learning. Nothing. Everything.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2014-11-17]: The more curious we are about a topic, the easier it is to learn information about not only that topic but about other topics as well. New research publishing online October 2 in the Cell Press journal Neuron provides insights into what happens in our brains when curiosity is piqued. [1] Only if you seek, will you find. Only if you seek, will you learn. Pure will we are. And we must want to exist in order to exist. But try to stop wishing. Try to just be. And then you will learn nothing. The essense of everything...

Philosophy Wire: Drummer, soul, hands...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2014-04-17]: A drummer with one hand. Technology gives him 2 more hands for a total of 3! [1] And yet, Rick Allen is still more famous. How can 2 more hands replace soul?
