Philosophy Wire: Joking around… Forgetting death…

Even before they learn to talk, human infants and toddlers know how to joke: They play games such as peek-a-boo and take whatever unexpected actions get a rise from adults. Now, it appears that nonhuman apes—like gorillas and orangutans—engage in similar behaviors, according to a paper published last week in Biology Letters. [1] Laughing. Well before we learn to think. And after we do, we only cry. Because we have forgotten what was funny in the first place. But look around. Living. Feeling important. Suffering. Pain. Death. Philosophers arguing. Scientists discovering. Suffering. Pain. Death. Stop thinking. And you will see. Is there anything funnier?
