Philosophy Wire: Diversity. But not for me!

Diversity in the workplace is highly sought in theory, but often still lacking in practice. A new study shows that people tend to favor diversity for others, but prefer to work with people who are as similar to themselves as possible. [1] Diversity. What a funny irrational word! It means ‘different’ for others! But ‘stable’ for me. You see, I have to be stable in order to stay the same and differ from others! Diversity – as Levi Strauss explained to Unicef once upon a time – needs different stable populations that are the ingredients of this diversity. We seek diversity. But we fail to see that when this is exercised fully, it will nullify its own meaning and purpose. At the end everyone will be the same. Be careful what you wish for. At the end, we will still seek diversity. By having a big urge to kill it…

Look at that black swan.
And try to understand.
It is the only reason why we have white ones!
