Philosophy Wire: Life deep below...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-09-13]:

Bacteria, microbes and viruses exist in rocks, kilometers deep below the surface of the Earth. They grow and reproduce very slowly (they reproduce once every 10,000 years), but still they LIVE! (1)

Defintion of what "life" is to the extreme.

There will come a time when life - from the "it reproduces once every 10,000 years" defintion -  will approach "zero activity" (does not reproduce at all?). Then, when life is stripped off all its material meaning, we will have understood what life REALLY is...

The only thing alive, is what remains after we are dead.
