Philosophy Wire: Drugs, consciousness, state control...

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-06-05]: A former Microsoft executive has announced plans to make marijuana a brand in the US. [1]

Contrary to common belief, our society ACCEPTS the use of drugs. Alcohol, coffee, Prozac and now marijuana are all legally used in many places of the "modern" and "civilized" world. What is the catch?

That all of these drugs are altering your consciousness in a way that does not disrupt your view of society regarding its structure and functioning. No one became a rebel by drinking too much whiskey or coffee. On the other hand drugs like LSD are banned - they give their user a too much altered point of view that society cannot acceot. It is not me that says so. TED said it [The War on Consciousness - Graham Hancock].
