
Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-06-01]: Indignants fill Syntagma square and protest against the “thieves” politicians. The relevant page in Facebook has more than 100,000 members and it is still growing. But NO ONE (at all) has had the courage to admit his/her own mistakes that led to this situation. Everyone seems to “forget” that they voted for those thieves for decades! Surely a revolution can happen. In Greece and in any other country. But how can a revolution be justified and sustained in a country where free democratic elections were held for decades?!? During the French Revolution people wanted equality. Because they didn’t have equality. People in Egypt wanted democracy. Because they didn’t have democracy. What are we asking now? Can there be a revolution in democracy? And a little detail: Nea Dimokratia (the party which is in the opposition now, but which has ruled for decades as well) is now first in polls. People tend to forget easily in democracy…
