Philosophy Wire: More young people abstaining from sex, the role of education and the forgotten role of religion


Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-03-06]: A new CDC Survey found that the percentage of young people aged between 15-24 who had sexual experience has decreased over the last years [sources: 1, 2]. The news, which the researchers attribute to good education received by young people, was hailed as very positive in an era where small girl pregnancies are increasing. It seems that we forget easily. The same teachings to abstain from physical pleasures were once taught to young people by religion. Now if we hear those teachings from religion we consider them "graphical". But if we hear the same teachings from school we consider them "correct"...
