Philosophy Wire: Describing waves. Why do that?

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2016-06-15]: Two mathematicians have published a new paper that advances the math of describing a wave. [1] But why describe it? How much dull should we become in order to finally understand? Drowning at the sea. Admiring the silent ocean. Listening to the sound of waves. Sleeping by the water. Smelling the fresh air coming from the coast. Not describing anything. This is life. And true science is to understand the importance of all the above. With no equations. Put a coat. The breeze is chilling.
