Philosophy Wire: Senecas, philosophy, life.

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2013-11-28]:

Alain de Botton shows us how philosophers can help us improve our life, how to overcome our problems and create better conditions for our life.

Everything goes well until one day you learn that a beloved person of yours is about to die from a non-curable disease. You panic. You do not know what to do. Alain de Botton advises us to learn from the example of Seneca. Be prepared. When Nero sent his people to kill Seneca, the friends of the philosopher went pale and bursted into tears. “Where is your philosophy?”, asked the philosopher. According to Seneca in the core of every disappointment lies a basic structure: the conflict between our wishes with the harsh reality. (From the newspaper article of I. N. Bazokos "Don't panic, read philosophy", newspaper "Το Βήμα", Greece, 30/1/2011)

Where is your philosophy?
How do you apply the things you believe?
