Philosophy Wire: The “outbreak” of 2 (!!!) and the ridiculousness of Scientism

aaa2Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-06-21]: Scientists claim that we have an outbreak of scarlet fever in Hong Kong, where 2 people have already died from the disease [source: BBC News]. Modern medicine becomes more and more ridiculous (and dangerous). The death of even one person is tragic on its own. The characterization of two (= 2) possible incidents as an “outbreak” is absurd. Being wise and professional saves lives. Being in a constant panic mode does not (although it may grant you some funds for more “research”)…
