Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-06-25]: The New York state became the 6th US state (and the most popular) which accepts the marriage between two persons of the same sex [source: BBC News]. Freedom is always what all people with free will seek. But every time we ask for a new “freedom” we should ask ourselves: why do we want that freedom? Is freedom a self-justified purpose? For what reason do we want to get married? Is it because society “tells us so”, or because we believe in marriage as an institution? Is it a matter of ethics, religion or is it simply an economic / inheritance matter? How much noble or low are our incentives?
