Philosophy Wire: Ancient music and the Harmony of the Cosmos

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-04-19]: An ancient trumpet of the legendary pharaoh Toutannchamon were among the items stolen from the museum in Cairo during the recent riots. BBC archive has audio material with the trumpet sounding again in the hands of a modern musician [http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-13092827]. The material is rare and one of the few times that the ancient trumpet sounded again after millennia buried in the tomb of its Pharaoh owner. A sound from the past... Music reminds us that we are one with our past, all in the same auditorium being swept away by the same rythms of the cosmos... And perhaps music is what reminds us that we all share something in common, such as notes which unite the world with their harmony... Notes from the past old which continue to affect us today, even if we cannot hear them in today's world of over-analysis and over-explanation of everything...
