Philosophy Wire: The Virus, Android and the mania of control

Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2011-03-04]: Google, with the help of a user, discovered that many applications developed for the Android operating system were infected with virus from a malicious hacker. The company immediately withdrew the applications from the Android Store. But it did not stop there and went a "little further", disabling the malicious applications that were already installed in mobile phones with Android! [source: web news] To do this, it used a function that was initially designed to fight viruses off. It is nice to be you who is in control. But who wants to *be* under control? How do you feel when a company can do whatever it wants on your mobile phone and install/uninstall applications at will? And vice versa, why do you feel good when you "control" something? Where has that mania of "control" come from...?
