Philosophy Wire by Spiros Kakos [2010-12-21]: Scientists discovered that the beautiful flower of the picture has a genome that is about 50 times bigger in size than the human one [source: http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2010/10/scienceshot-biggest-genome-ever.html?etoc].
So after we have learned that we are not the species that is best adapted to the environment and that we are not the best fit for survival (since bacteria have been proved to be able to survive in almost any hostile environment in which we cannot), we now learn that our DNA does not have the most information (the "goddess" of modern materialists) than the DNA of other species... So now we will not be able to proudly say that "the fly has a smaller DNA than ours because we are more evolved", since the flower in the picture will look at us "laughing"... Certain definitions must be re-defined, things we think we know must be examined again, truths we are afraid of must be spoken out loud... It is not bad or wrong to change opinion, as it is not "bad" to have the less bits of information in your DNA... Our DNA may be smaller, but there are other things that make us who we are than the information in our genome...
