Philosophy Wire: New York Times and the beginning of paid Internet

Philosophy Wire: 2010-10-16 New York Times will start charging online readers trying to read the news on the Internet portal of the newpaper. Is communications free? Should it be free? How can you charge communication if you are not one of the media conglomerates in the world? How can communication be a commodity, if not in todays world where everything is counted in dollars? If Internet started as a medium of free communication noone can transform its nature. Or can they?

[Greek / Ελληνικά] Οι New York Times θα αρχίσουν να χρεώνουν το διάβασμα των νέων στην ιστοσελίδα τους. Είναι η επικοινωνία δωρεάν; Πρέπει η επικοινωνία να είναι δωρεάν; Πως θα μπορούσες να χρεώσεις την επικοινωνία, αν δεν είσαι μεγάλος όμιλος μέσων μαζικής ενημέρωσης; Πως θα μπορούσε η επικοινωνία να είναι εμπόρευμα, αν όχι στο σημερινό κόσμο όπου όλα μετρώνται σε δολλάρια; Αν το Διαδίκτυο ξεκίνησε σαν μέσο ελεύθερης επικοινωνίας, κανένας δεν μπορεί να το αλλάξει αυτό. Ή μήπως μπορεί;
