Philosophy Wire: 2010-10-31 Every year we adjust our clocks according to the Daylight Saving hour settings. The official justification is that this change increases productivity, since it synchronizes better the hours during which we are awake with the hours during which the Sun shines on the sky. But this small change we perform every year shows something deeper which we all know but no one of us understands: that time is the greatest illusion of all. All it takes is a small adjustment of a small artifact like a clock, and time is magically "changed"... Why despite the fact that no scientific theory shows the existence of the "flow of time" do we still believe in that flow? We must always remember, each time that we set our clocks to a different time, that it is in our hand to get rid of that notion that we think governs our lives...
