Philosophy Wire: 2010-10-28 Germany and France are trying to pass a change to the Lisbon Treaty, according to which countries having excess buget deficits will lose the right to vote. The economic deficits due to the global economic crisis seem to lead to deomocracy deficits, in favour of the economically powerfull. So now, the coutry which was responsible for 2 World Wars and the country which is now deporting immigrants (Roma), are now giving people lessons of tyranny. It is true that the budget deficit is very important in a capitalistic economical system. But economy is not everything! The right to vote - despite of the economic status - is something earned with many struggles over the last years. And this right is responsible for the progress of humanity in those last years. Who is Merkel to say otherwise?
